Final Presentation

Students will present the final product of this summer construction project this Friday July 30th starting at 12 noon in the Powell Galllery, Design Center. Please join us!

Good evening everyone, here are the pics of the wooden frame, so far he have all of our wood cut accordingly, and one side wood frame somplete. We purchased the horizontal members and decided not to make those out of the plywood or else the frame will be a bit flimsy as we noted in the large scale mock up. all members have been glued and nailed in at various points in order for the frame to be stiff and as strong and possible. The images show the french nip, which i believe will work nicely. more pictures to come of the other side of the frame, once their coomplete, the homosote boards will be constructed.

Santaigo, frame complete, 100%

good afgternoon everyone, the metal fram is fially complete. here are some images. the telescoping is a bit tight, but its just a matter of bending the members up or down, easy fix. i tried cutting thr wood today, but it was being used and it was going to take a while. Ali is working of the 3" model and will swing by the shop to grind off some welds. As i began to mesure the wood, i realized we did not purchase the horizontal members for the wood frame, these members will be 1" thick x 2" wide x 6' in height. These members will not be butt joints, it is not a strong bond, it will be a rhalf lap joints halfway horizontally on the horizontal members.Once we have the horizontals, is a matter of cuttind and joining the verticals, but before, the 45 degree angle cut will need to be made to create the edges for the french nip. Pictures to come of such details tomorrow afternoon.

Santiago, Frame 90% complete

Good evening everyone, the Frame is 90% complete, the welding machine ran out of welding wire and the tools at school are in very poor condition, i had to cut the wires from the grinders and connecting properly so that we can continue working. But Jesse and i managed to get the whole main frame up and ready. Once the whole frame is complete, we will grind it to a clean finish by removing the top surface of the metal and painting it with a primer to prevent the metal from rusting. Tomorrow, tuesday, i will put together the teloscoping frame and weld on the plates and the casters. Once complete, i will swing by lowes and some lumbar yards to check pricing and material availability on the wood.

Santaigo, Frame 75% complete

Good evening everyone, i managed to go to school today and keep working on the frame,Jesse gave me a hand. So far i have two side mebers complete, its just a matter of joining them with the C-channels. Tomorrow, monday, morning, i will swing by the Mcmaster carr showrrom and purchase the casters. Once i get to skool and weld on the c-channels, i will drive to IMS ans order the bottom plates where the wheels will be welded to. I believe i can have this complete definitely by tomorrow evening only if they give me the plates tomorrow, hope they wont have to be a special order. I also plan on purchasing a wire grinding plate and have the whole frame nicely grinded with one finish in the whole frame. Its coming out pretty nice.

Santaigo, Frame 50% complete

Hi everyone, here are some pictures of the work i got done on fri, in a matter of four hrs i managed to get two vertical members welded by the horizontals that provide the support, not the c channels, those will go on once both sides are built. I got a pretty good hang of the welding and grinding in order to make it look nice. i tried going in on saturday, but there was a shop class was going on. Today sunday, i know shop is definitely open fron 12-8, so i will be going in and Jesse will be swinging around to give me a hand. i project to have the frame completely done by monday night or tuesday afternoon. Once the frame members are all welded, i will swing around the Mcmaster Carr show room in Santa Fe Springs to get some nice looking casters. We are definitely under budget, So far, we have spent less than $460, and we got the material and some tools that will help make the frame a solid square

Santiago, Ali. Initial Frame Work

So today Ali and i met up at IMS to purchase the metal for the main frame. IMS did not have 10 ft pre-cut sizes of the member we were looking for, they only has 20ft members. The price to but the metal was $8.00 per cut, the members price was about 2 dollars and some change. It was to our adtantage to take the extra material in case there was any errors when cutting or welding. So we drove back to Woodbury and began to mesure the members and cut them. The members are not exactly 4'x2'x6', as we learned in the wood mock up, it will tend to grow. As ali did in the new details he posted, the 2' memners are actually 23" since they will be in between the two vertical members that are 1.5"x1.5". As so as the other members changed that are in between the 6' members. Tomorrow friday, i will begin the welding of the main frame, i will keep you guys updated with pictures and comments on the progress. if any problems come up, ill find a way to work it out but before ill contact the rest of the team members and the proffessors.here are some pictures i took today, all the members are cut, ready for a clean up with the grinder on the edges and begin welding.
