Frame and upward telescope

I opologize for the quality of the images, i happen to misplace my camera. The first image shows the open telescope upward, the secong image shows the fram with a 6" spacing in between the main fram and the telescoping frame giving enough space/clearance for someone to place hand in order to open the frame upward. Currently working on the actual material frame and will finish 3" model with horizontal telescopes.Ali Jamila and myself will be meeting up to delevelope a detail framework on CAD or Rhino. Will have everything by Wednesday presentation.

Ali - June 19, 2010 Frame Shelving

Conceptual new frame, with sliding shelving during pinup or storage. Next step is to figure out the detailing, caster placement, and also the outer shell and pin-up boards.

Hi everyone, here are some sketches that were developed as we met throught the weekend. The images you see are a series of pictures that took of a sliding door from a UPS truck where i work at. The hinges that allow it to curve have wheels at the edge built into a rail system that has a structutral support that is attached to the fram of the truck. The other images show how the warehouse was built. this warehouse is all metal, as you can see, L shape plates were welded on first and then another component was placed ontop and then welded together, we can use this similar concept for our framework. Over the weekend, we were trying to figure out how thick or long the material needed to be to support the panels, using cross brasing and the L shaped to place and weld, the frame will be strong enough, the cages seen in various color can support my weight, and the weight of many packeges withought damage, i will print and take to studio tomorrow to discuss the images.

Jamilla Hinging Model

Santiago Diaz, Design 1

Design try 1, This system recommends a better organization of the space in studio. A rail system will be able to pull a set or homasote panels pushed back onto the existing wall on the north side. once pulled out, a set of folded panels can then unflod towards the center of the studio.

Santiago Diaz, Mock Up Model

This Mock Up model is based on a panel like system with hinges and pivot points that will allow for removal and locating these panels inside and outside the studios. Image 1) shows the panels folded and stacked,2)unfloded panels,3)Hinges, 4)the pivoters and a base for the connected system to stand on,5) & 6)show the connected system. When this system of panels is not in use, thaty can be stored on a box type of container with wheels and be rolled whereever on wishes to join the system, wether its inside or outside.

Santiago Diaz, Welding

This welding practice was done the friday May 29.My focus was to find settings within the self feeding welders setting in which i would feel confortable welding. I first tried to make staright lines on the plate until i found 3 different settings:slow, intermediate, and fast. I then tried welding a channel onto the plate and that onc e theres too much of a gap or cave in, more welding material will be required and slower movemens, therefore the slow feed will be most convenient. I then welded a plabe onto the plate trying to create a 90 degree angle, once accomplished i tried to weld a piece of thin aluminum and realized that these type of welder will not weld aluminum and found that once your in one stop for too long, the welder whill make wholes on the material. After some research i found out that aluminum can we welded with an arc welder.

Mock Up Model Ali

This is a mock up of the "hub" I'm working on. I wanted to minimize the mechanical pieces used for this project, having pieces that interlock and slide into each other rather than bolting, screwing, or gluing them. This hub is comprised of a slab that has grooves cut into it, which then 4' x 8' pieces can be slid in and out. The scale of this mock up is roughly 4" x 8".

Welding Attempt Ali 2

Cutting a pipe at an angle, and then trying to weld a metal plate at that angle. Also, attempting to weld on the inside of an object, hiding the weld nicely.

Welding Attempt Ali

You need a good mask, good gloves, and don't be afraid to get burnt a little
